Thanks to the many volunteers on Friday and the Vestry from St Francis on Saturday, the ICE house is looking pretty good.  Over the next couple weeks there will be major changes inside the house.  Foam insulation is going in this week and drywall will be installed next.  THANKS BIG TIME to our anonymous donor for supplying funds to have a drywall professional do the installation.

With all that interior work going on, we will be working both Friday & Saturday at the Warehouse (17th & Rowan) painting, building a shed and making window sills.  If the weather is good and we have too many people (Is that possible?) we can send some back out to the house to work on the deck roof.

As we head into Fall, and the temperatures cool down, there are a lot of activities starting up at schools, Churches and Synagogues.  We need to keep the energy level and enthusiast going at the ICE house.  Last weekend was a good effort with the Jewish and Lutheran Communities making progress on siding and the rear deck.

Over the next weeks you will see a lot of progress with installation of insulation, HVAC and drywall by Habitat contractors.  We have a lot of wood trim and wall painting, followed by installation of baseboard, doors and miscellaneous trim.  Everybody is needed to meet our completion date of Thanksgiving! LETS GET THIS BAD BOY DONE!!

St Francis Episcopal is on the calendar for this work weekend.  Henrietta Heyburn has lunch covered for Saturday (great cookies!!) but no lunch volunteers have signed up for Friday.  Please let me know if anyone is available to service lunch on Friday or it will be a brown bag day.  Remember that all partners are encouraged to come and join the effort.

Maniacs!!! That’s all I can say about St Thomas’s work crew volunteers.  It was hot but nothing would slow them down. The images in the Gallery will verify that a lot was accomplished without CASUALTIES! We even got the deck started.

Fall is coming with cooler temperatures but let’s hope without the tornadoes!  Louisville had a tough weekend but all went well at the ICE house.

Work schedule for this weekend (Week 9) looks like more of the same with installation of Hardie board and soffit but we will start building of a covered deck at the rear entrance to the kitchen.  If you’re thinking about a new deck for your house or helping your son-in-law with his, don’t miss this hands on experience.  Deck building 101 taught by Mr. Richey.

It’s been the Dog Days of Summer since we started the ICE house but the weather is finally starting to break.  This weekend’s forecast is sunny with cooler temperatures. Fall is just around the corner for you folks that like color change and football.

I think we’re getting used to this heat…………..NOT!

It will get cooler, but probably not till the end of August.  So we’ll make sure to have plenty of ICE water.

We completed installation of Hardie board on one side of the house (the shady side) and soffit is complete around the 1^st floor. This weekend (Week 7), we will continue with installation of soffit on front and rear eaves and Hardie board on the sunny side of the house.

Even with the heat we are making progress.  Week 5 saw completion of the front porch ceiling and continued work on soffit.  We’re really working the Hardie board siding.  If you have never checked it out come down and take a look or run over to Norton Commons.  It’s used on many of the new homes in the 2011 Parade of Homes.  Nothings too good for the ICE house!

This weekend (Week 6), we will continue with installation of soffit and Hardie board siding.

When the temperature gets above 96 degrees you have to be Hard Core!

If you weren’t able to make it last Friday you missed some of Amy’s Kalua Cake. I have two comments to make about Week 4: (1) It was HOT, with humidity at least 99% and (2) I’ve never seen so much soffit on one house.  But the Lord was looking with favor on our efforts.  We had plenty of ice cold water and the volunteers never complained. (I did hear some groaning from time to time!)Preview Changes The bottom line, we have installed about 1/3 of the soffit, the back-door is hung, Hardie board trim is painted and the electricians have started the wiring. Not a bad effort!

This weekend (Week 5), and for the next couple of weeks, we will continue with installation of soffit and Hardie board siding.

A note of information. Jim Richey was on site all weekend after a hernia operation on Monday.  Hernia operations (any medical procedure) can be tricky so please continue to give him a hand if you see him lifting anything!!

Another good weekend! (Are there bad weekends? I think not!) We completed interior walls, finished covering all exterior nooks and crannies with blue board and began building, then installing the corner “Bird Boxes”.  The electricians are scheduled to wire the house this week so things are moving along as planned.

I expect that this weekend (Week 4) we will start painting the Hardie board siding and installing the corners and starter rows.  We would have already begun but the wrong material arrived and had to be sent back to Lowe’s.  Let’s hope that is the worst issue we have.

One note of information. Monday, Jim Richey had surgery on a hernia that has been giving him problems.  All went well and Jim expects to be on site this weekend.  So, if you see him picking up anything other than a bottle of water, please give him a hand!! His wife Louise will appreciate your help and a gentle reminder to take it easy!!
